OVERVIEW

Embark on a journey through one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic and rewarding trails. The 7-day Lemosho Route offers pristine landscapes, gradual acclimatization, and a rewarding summit experience for adventurers seeking a perfect balance of challenge and beauty.

Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Big Tree Camp

After breakfast, we pick you up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha and drive to Lemosho Gate, a scenic 3-hour journey. After completing registration formalities, we begin our trek through the lush rainforest, encountering diverse wildlife such as Colobus monkeys and unique bird species. The trail winds through dense vegetation, leading to Big Tree Camp.

Day 2: Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Today’s hike takes us out of the rainforest and into the moorland zone. We ascend gradually, enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding plains and Kibo Peak in the distance. This scenic day sets the tone for the rest of the trek.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

We traverse the Shira Plateau, a unique volcanic landscape offering panoramic views. This section of the trek provides easy walking conditions, allowing you to adjust to the higher altitude.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

A significant acclimatization day as we ascend to Lava Tower at 4,600 m before descending into the Barranco Valley. This day challenges your endurance while offering spectacular views of the Western Breach and surrounding peaks. Lunch is served at Lava Tower, followed by a descent to Barranco Camp.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Today begins with a challenging but exhilarating climb up the Great Barranco Wall. Once at the top, the trail descends into the Karanga Valley. This relatively short day allows for additional acclimatization, preparing you for the final push to higher altitudes.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

We continue our ascent to Barafu Camp, the base camp for the summit attempt. The trail passes through a barren and rocky alpine desert, offering stunning views of the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. After an early dinner, rest in preparation for the midnight summit push.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Summit night begins at midnight with a challenging climb to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Witness a breathtaking sunrise as you reach the summit. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
